Hendersonville’s only Type-A Life Care Continuing Care Retirement Community

  • Jeanne Reno Hiking View

Carolina Village is known as many things…

First of all, we’re Hendersonville’s only Type-A Life Care Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). Some call us a Life Plan Community. But most importantly, our residents simply call the Village “home.”

Whatever you call us, we’re proud to be a non-profit organization with a rock-solid history of delivering superior care to seniors. And we do all of it on our beautiful, energetic 96-acre campus in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina.

The Life Plan Difference

What does it mean to be a CCRC or Life Plan Community?

Carolina Village offers the full continuum of care to retirees. From independent living to assisted living and skilled nursing, residents are taken care of whenever they need the care, right here on campus.

Our Grassroots History

Over 50 years ago, a group of locals came together with a breakthrough idea and vision. They envisioned a community in Henderson County that would provide great housing and superior care to people as they aged. This vision would allow folks to retire with peace of mind; they’d never need to move again. Residents would be taken care of… Always.

The idea came from Mrs. Mignon Sullivan, a local who saw the need for this type of community. Inspired by Mrs. Sullivan, local physician Dr. Kenneth Cosgrove began to seek assistance from other community leaders. He started at the Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce since he himself was a member there.

For the next 10 years, the group would work to create Carolina Village. In 1974, our doors opened. It is because of this group who never lost sight of their goal that we have the inspiration for our vision, mission, and passion today.

The Village Today

Proud of our rich history of compassionate and superior care, we are excited to continue to make a difference in our community. The need that Mrs. Sullivan and those other visionaries recognized then is still strong today.

We’ve grown a bit since our grassroots start. Today, we have cottages and apartments that could only be dreamt of in 1974. We have activities and opportunities that were unheard of then. But what remains is our strong foundation of deep care and our true community heart.

Leadership

Our leadership team comes from all around the country, from a variety of fields and experiences. They all have one thing in common: a passion for serving others, especially seniors.

Board of Directors

First, Carolina Village is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. That means a lot of things. Most importantly, it means that local folks who care deeply about long-term living in western North Carolina sit on our volunteer Board of Directors. There, they roll up their sleeves and carry on our legacy.

Resident Council

Above all else, Carolina Village is our residents’ home. Therefore, we believe that residents should have a big say in our community. That is why the Resident Council works closely with the administration… To make life more fulfilling for every resident. Right here at home.

Giving Opportunities

Carolina Village would not be the thriving and welcoming community it is today without help from people like you, people who give their time volunteering on campus or on our Board and people who give small donations to our community.
